Common Buick Issue: Low Power

Repair Issue:

Low power

Cause:

Restricted Air Intake System – Restricted Exhaust System – Failed Turbocharger

Customer Concern:

Code P0299. Low power.

Test/Procedure:

  1. Check engine oil level and condition.
  2. Watch for the wastegate rod to move when quickly accelerating to Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
  3. Listen for the turbocharger to spin up during wot accel.
  4. Verify the wastegate is closed. Inspect for wear on the linkage that would not allow the wastegate to close.
  5. Check for a restricted exhaust or intake system.

Tech Tip

Code P0299. Under boost condition.
