Vehicle:
2017 Toyota RAV 4 LE 2.5L
Problem:
The fuel gauge reads full every time the vehicle is turned on. DTC’s B1500
Diagnosis:
After hearing the complaint, I installed the compatible scan tool and used the output test function of the fuel gauge to confirm it was operating properly. Because it was responding correctly, I anticipated there was a potential sending-unit issue. I lowered the fuel tank to inspect the sending-unit wiring and main harness for damage. I found a rodent nest around the wiring, and the green and yellow sending unit wires near the middle of the tank were touching. I replaced the exposed section of the wiring harness, erased the DTC’s and swept the fuel gauge. Following this fix, the fuel gauge read properly.
Solution:
Repaired wiring harness section to sending unit on top of the fuel tank.
